Twitter Tips feature: How to set up, use, payment options and more

Earlier this year, Twitter introduced it Advice function for users. With this option, Twitter users can send money or receive money on the platform. “Tips makes this easier to do by providing a fixed place, right on your profile, where you can link to your Cash app, Patreon, Venmo, and other platforms where people can support you,” the company said in a blog post. The company says it takes no cut.

How does the Tips feature work?

You can tell if an account has been activated Tips if you see the “money” icon next to the Follow button on the profile page. Tap the icon and you’ll see a list of payment services or platforms the account has activated, and users can choose whichever they prefer. Please note that the Tips feature is not currently available on the web. Available services include:

* Gang camp
* Cash app
* Chip
* Patreon
* Razorpay
* Simple rich money
* Venmo
* PicPay

Note: Twitter users in India can pay using Razorpay.

How do I set up Tips on my Twitter account?
On iOS or Android, go to Edit Profile. Then tap Tips, which is off by default. You will be required to agree to Twitter’s general tips policy to enable Tips on your profile.

Once you have agreed to the general tipping policy, you will be brought to the Tips settings screen. Enable ‘Allow Tips’ and then select the third party service you want to use, in India it is Razorpay. You must have at least one username entered for your Tips icon to appear on your Twitter profile.

When you add a third-party payment service to your profile, please note that your username on that service will be publicly linked to your Twitter account. Information about you, including, but not limited to, your full name, address, and your tip may be shared with the recipient or others, depending on the terms of the third-party payment service.

Who can send and receive Tips and what can I use the Tips for?
You must be at least 18 years old to ask for, receive or send tips through Tips or anywhere on Twitter.

You can tip to show support, show appreciation, help or reward anyone you want – from emerging creators to Spaces on Twitter hosts and more. Because tipping is done through third-party payment services, you should also ensure that your tip complies with the terms and policies of those services.

Does sending Tips entitle users to any exclusive services/content on Twitter?
No, sending someone a tip does not entitle you to any premium or exclusive content from them, nor is it a substitute for purchasing a ticket for Ticketed spaces or purchasing a Super Follows subscription.

If I send a Tip, what percentage will the person receive?
Tips in the form of money and Bitcoin are sent by Twitter through third-party payment services. Twitter will not take any part of these payments, but third-party payment services may charge fees.

How do I send someone a tip?
You can tip people using the Tip icon if they’ve enabled the feature and added their usernames from third-party payment processors. On both iOS and Android you’ll find the Tips feature on the main Twitter profile under the icon. On Android, you’ll also find the icon when you tap someone’s profile inside the Twitter space.

How do I choose a tip payment provider?
When you configure or add an additional third-party service through your Tips settings, you may only choose from the selected third-party service listed in your Tips settings.

Is there a limit to how much you can tip?
Twitter places no limit on the amount users can tip; however, third-party payment platforms may impose limits on the amount you may tip.
