Many may know that Twitter allows its users to accept payments through their Twitter profiles. The micro-blogging website introduced a Tip feature in May 2021 that allows you to support people on Twitter by sending tips about their contributions, content and work on the platform. This is done through a third-party payment service, with options provided in the person’s account.
The Tip feature was limited, but as of September 2021, it became available to all Twitter users worldwide. “Good news: Our tip feature – now called Tips – is rolling out to everyone with more payment options to choose from – even crypto,” Twitter. has written in her blog post.
The micro-blogging website further explained that “Whether you want to tip your favorite account because you love their comments, send some love to an up-and-coming comedy creator for their hilarious tweets, help a business owner small in a difficult time, give to an important cause – whatever you want to support (and we know you already have some ideas), Tips is here to help you do it.”
Most critics say the Tip feature is part of Twitter’s effort to make its platform a more enjoyable place for everyone who uses it.
Tipping allows Twitter users to activate a tip jar button on their profile, which then facilitates direct donations from profile visitors to the app. The ‘Tip’ icon is placed next to the follow button on your Twitter profile page.
You’ll see the money icon on the profile pages of people who have Tips set up.
All Twitter users can receive tips — whether you’re a creator, journalist, expert or nonprofit — as long as your account has the feature enabled.
Twitter gives you multiple payment options to get tips, depending on the availability of the service in your region. Payment options users can add to receive Tips include; Bandcamp, Barter, Cash App, Chipper, Patreon, PayPal, Venmo, GoFundMe, PicPay, Crypto (Bitcoin and Ethereum), Razorpay, Paga, Paytm and Wealthsimple Cash.
How do I set up my Tips?

When you add a third-party payment service to your profile, please note that your username on that service will be publicly linked to your Twitter account. How do you send someone a tip?
On both iOS and Android, you’ll find the Tips feature [appears with a money icon] on the main Twitter profile next to the follow button. On Android, you’ll also find the icon when you tap someone’s profile within Twitter Spaces.
When you tap the money icon [which is the tip feature], you will be offered payment services to choose from to send tips. Twitter does not place limits on the amount you can tip; however, third-party payment platforms, depending on their terms of service, may place limits on the amount you can give.
When you send Bitcoin through Strike, you’ll be able to switch between viewing the currency in Satoshi (Sats) or BTC. You will also be able to copy someone’s Bitcoin or Ethereum address and paste their address into any wallet you use.
Twitter says that with the Tip feature, users will be able to support each other, show appreciation, help in difficult times and financially support the work of journalists and creators.
