Take four. The Dallas Cowboys surprisingly sit at 2-1 on the season. It’s surprising because they got there after starting the season looking painful on offense against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers while losing their starting quarterback. Cooper Rush took over and after an up-and-down (and back) debut in 2022, saw the lights out against the New York Giants in Week 3 in a 23-16 victory. Now, it’s in Washington, or at least Washington is coming to Dallas.
The game against the Commanders will be the second consecutive NFC East battle and is crucial for Dallas to win their divisional games. Going 2-0 without Prescott could be the difference between a title, a vacancy and missing the playoffs altogether. That’s where Cowboys fans need to focus, but they’ll also need to figure out how to watch Dallas try to put together a real winning streak. We’re here to help out there as well as some betting tips and insight into how each team will go about winning the game.

Cowboys keys to victory
Taking both RBs Ezekiel Elliott AND Tony Pollard included early on should help smooth things out for QB Cooper Rush against one of the worst defenses in the league. Dallas would be wise to keep their ears on the pass rush and try to shake Wentz as early and often as possible to keep the Commanders in an early game funk. Pressure on the left side of the defense should be key.
Commanders the keys to victory
A strong start to the season was followed by big struggles in a week two loss to the Lions and a week three loss to the Eagles. QB Carson Wentz will have to show improved pocket presence and internal clock after being sacked nine times, fumbling twice, a week ago. Finding time to allow WRs Terry McLaurin AND Curtis Samuel clearing the second level of defense is imperative for the offensive line. The pass defense will have to find solutions. They don’t seem to have rediscovered any of their 2020 magic under DC Jack Del Rio.
Match to see
Commanders WR Terry McLaurin vs. Cowboys CB Trevon Diggs. McLaurin recorded his first 100-yard game of the season in Week 3, but Diggs has owned this game in 2021. On six targets in the head-to-head appearance, he allowed McLaurin just one catch for 14 yards. Diggs had three pass breakups and an interception on those targets.
Who wins?
Even with a backup QB, Dallas looks to be the stronger roster.
Cowboys 24, Commanders 17.
