How Typedream’s Twitter Grew To 7K Twitter Followers | by Kevin Chandra | Typedream | Jul, 2022

Growth of the Typedream Twitter account

A step-by-step overview of how we grew Typedream’s Twitter account to 7k followers in 1 year.

Guillermo Rauch’s tweet about Typedream

We started our Twitter account in 2021 with a tweet of an upcoming Typedream teaser video. That tweet got the attention of over 100 people and quickly pushed us past the 100 follower mark in about 1 week. After that, we had Guillermo Rauch, CEO of Vercel, tweet and it took us to more than 300 followers in the second week. By the end of the month, our teaser video had over 5,000 views on Twitter.

This phase is dominated by the Typedream team building it public. When we were building to the public, we opened 2 waitlists through the Product Hunt ship and our own waitlist page. The function of this waiting list page was so that we would be able to interview every potential user and build the product according to their feedback. Within the first month, we had over 200 people on the waiting list to use Typedream.

We started building the MVP according to the teaser video and left everything else to the users to decide. As we interviewed our users, we tweeted about them. Tweets included a photo/video of our virtual interview and what they wanted from a next-gen website builder. This caught the attention of many other users who also wanted to help build the website builder of their dreams.

Eventually, we started giving beta access to users who interviewed with us and encouraged them to create content about their experience using Typedream. These avid Typedream users tweeted about how easy it was and how important it was to create websites using Typedream. Therefore, it attracted even more public attention, and they populated our waiting list beyond 1000 people.

The only way for people to get access to Typedream was to go on a waiting list and be interviewed, which angered hundreds. We had people knocking on our doors and to appease them we created a SIMP program where waitlist users could generate content about how badly they wanted to use Typedream on all social media. This pushed us to 1000 followers and beyond on Twitter.

Here is an example of simple content that our users put out on social media.

This phase is divided into two parts. The first was our successful launch of Product Hunt which won us three awards which are Product of the Day, Product of the Week and Product of the Month. We received over 3000 upvotes for the launch of Typedream in July 2021. Let’s find out how we got over 3000 upvotes in the first place.

We had built a waiting list of more than 1000 users for more than 3 months using Product Hunt’s ship and created our own waiting list of 500+ users. We grew our Twitter following to over 1,000 users prior to the introduction of Product Hunt. The combination of the waitlist and Twitter following allowed us to reach over 2,000 people on launch day.

During our launch day, our dreamers (that’s what we call our users lol) came. They quickly bombarded the vote button for Product Hunt and shared it on social media. This caught the attention of many codeless Twitter users with over 5K followers and we got them to tweet about us. By the end of the month, we had over 2,000 Twitter followers.

Growing beyond 2,000 followers, we continued to rely on users who love Typedream with all their hearts as they shared their experiences in their communities. We grew to over 7,000 Twitter followers organically through the tweets of our power users, enterprise customers, and no-code communities. Building such a huge audience was truly an incredible journey that motivated us to grow even further.

We are now trying to expand our reach beyond the Twitter bubble as we grow our Instagram, Tiktok and Youtube accounts. We are learning a lot and look forward to sharing it with others once we gain a significant following on those 3 platforms. See you guys in another one!
