West Indies Women U19 vs Ireland Women U19

The West Indies will aim for wins against Indonesia and Ireland to ensure progress from the group stage, as they hope to be more competitive against New Zealand than they were in their two losses to them in November.

But having tasted victory just once in their last 10 T20s – with the latest defeats also coming against Sri Lanka, India and the USA – any success beyond the group stage can be considered a bonus.

Right-arm batsman Djenaba Joseph has risen rapidly from making his senior debut for Trinidad and Tobago in June 2022 to being called up to the senior West Indies squad just six months later. Joseph played four T20Is in the last senior series against England, initially appearing in the middle order but having more success at the start.

Having automatically qualified as Full Members, Ireland’s U19s are focused on domestic preparation ahead of the campaign, and so there is an unknown as to how they will fare against their group rivals.

Now with 24 international caps under her belt and a world record, 17-year-old Amy Hunter is one of the faces of the inaugural tournament. Leading her side to the historic event, Hunter is the youngest ever centurion in the history of international cricket, breaking Mithali Raj’s record in an ODI in 2021 against Zimbabwe.

Joining Hunter as a senior international in the squad is Georgina Dempsey, with the versatile 18-year-old boasting nine international caps in each of the white-ball formats. There is a summary of 18-year-old Joanna Loughran who is a consistent performer in Leinster Cricket.

Pakistan Women U19 vs Rwanda Women U19

There is something extremely symbolic about Rwanda’s under-19 women becoming the country’s first representatives at a global cricket event.

Rwanda’s skill with the ball is their strength, and Gisele will likely have six or seven other players available to change things up. Gisele’s namesake, Henriette Ishimwe, is one of three other highly experienced members of the squad, along with seamer Belise Murekatete and first baseman Merveille Uwase. Cesarie Muragajimana, Marie Tumukunde and Rosine Uwera will support the frontline bowlers with their work in the middle.

Few players have the senior international experience of needle bowling all-rounder Gisele Ishimwe, and the captain is the perfect player to lead an emerging force in African cricket. No other player on the tour can boast a T20I century, with Ishimwe posting 114* against Eswatini in the 2021 Africa Qualifier for the T20 World Cup.

Pakistan captain Aroob Shah has a distinguished pedigree in the team and will take a leadership role with the ball. The right-leg spinner turned 19 on New Year’s Eve and will bring a relatively wealth of experience to the tournament.

Shahu is one of a number of spinners selected in a squad that will test the opposition’s mettle against the spinning ball.

Progressing from Group B will be the minimum aim for the traveling side, with the Super Six stage likely to be a major test if they reach the second leg of the tournament.

England Women U19 vs Zimbabwe Women U19

England have a squad full of talent at their disposal and at the same time, players who have experienced the big stage.

With experience of playing on the big stage already, orthodox left-arm spinner Sophia Smale will be a key part of England’s squad in the inaugural ICC Women’s U19 T20 World Cup. In addition to Smale, the team features Ryana MacDonald-Gay, Hannah Baker and Grace Scrivens, all of whom were part of The Hundred this year.

Up against Pakistan, Rwanda and Zimbabwe in Group C of the ICC Women’s U19 T20 World Cup, England on paper are not only favorites to progress to the Super 6 stage of the tournament, but must be dreaming of going even further.

Zimbabwe have left no stone unturned in preparation for the tournament. They recently traveled to India in December and took part in a quadrilateral series with local teams and emerged victorious with six wins from eight.

Zimbabwe will be pinning high hopes on their captain, Kelis Ndhlovu, to deliver with both bat and ball and lead them by example in the ICC Women’s U19 World Cup T20 2023. Alongside captain Ndhlovu, they will much will be expected of Michelle Mavunga, the second senior player in attendance. in the team.

Zimbabwe have been placed alongside England, Pakistan and Rwanda in Group B of the ICC U19 Women’s T20 World Cup. Given the format of the tournament that allows three teams to qualify for the Super Six stage, Zimbabwe will aim to do just that.

New Zealand Women U19 vs Indonesia Women U19

The New Zealand team is filled with players who have made a strong impression in both international and domestic cricket. A slow left-wing orthodox by trade, Fran Jonas has already made her mark on the international scene. The 18-year-old is ranked 15th in the ICC Women’s T20I Bowlers’ Rankings.

Apart from Jonas, Georgia Plimmer and Isabella Gaze are players who are part of the Women’s U19 T20 World Cup squad and have already received their senior caps. Between the three of them, they have 49 international caps and their experience could be vital during the tournament.

New Zealand have been placed in Group C alongside Indonesia, Ireland and the West Indies and are strong contenders to not only finish on top but also go deep into the latter stages of the tournament.

This is the first ICC World Cup that Indonesia has reached at any level, so there is very little expectation from the inexperienced side going into the inaugural event.

Indonesia will have their hands full first against a talent-laden New Zealand side, while their task of reaching the Super Six stage of the event doesn’t get any easier with West Indies, the second opponent for Wesikaratna’s chargers Dewi.

Indonesia’s best chance to record a win may be in their final group game against Ireland. Kadek Ayu Kurniartini was the hero for Indonesia during the East Asia Pacific qualifiers in July last year and much will be expected of the talented all-rounder in South Africa.
