A 48-page souvenir booklet celebrating 100 years of Ilminster Carnival is now available.
The anniversary booklet, available in limited edition, contains information about this year’s carnival and also includes articles from Ilminster’s carnival clubs and hundreds of photographs from the carnival’s long history.
Booklets are available from eight locations around Ilminster and organizers have included a collection pot along with the booklets to collect donations.
Anyone interested can find the Carnival centennial brochures at the following locations:
- Ilminster Home Hardware;
- Coffee Square;
- Monks Yard Café;
- Silver Street Dairy;
- Ilminster Library;
- Greenslade Taylor Hunt;
- Ilminster Hair & Beauty;
- Ilminster Arts Centre.
Suggested donation is £1.
Ilminster Carnival will take place on Saturday, October 1st at 7.15pm.
The children’s procession will be held on Saturday, September 24 at 1:45 p.m.
Ilminster Carnival celebrates its 100th anniversary this year and the group said they have “a lot planned to celebrate”.
The carnival is part of the South Somerset Carnival Federation, which also consists of Wellington, Chard and Taunton.
The lighted float procession is part of an ancient tradition.
Floats can be up to 100 feet long and covered in thousands of bulbs.
