ORGANIZERS of the Rhayader Carnival were delighted with how this year’s event went, with the city’s streets filled with people and colour.
Carnival Day took place on Saturday 16th July, the weekend before the Royal Welsh Show, and was deemed a great success.
“It was very warm but very well attended and the atmosphere was amazing, it was definitely a welcome return after the 2 year break,” said Katy Cronin, one of the organizers of the carnival.
“Lexi Price was crowned Rhayader Carnival Queen 2022 by Mayor Linda Davies.
“The overall winners of the carnival were the Vikings, who put in an absolutely fantastic effort.
“We had a new lifetime trophy this year, this one was donated on behalf of the family of the late Alvine Stuart. Alvine was a very ardent supporter of the carnival and attended every year without fail.
“Not only that, but she was also the mother of our president, who unfortunately passed away during the isolation. It seemed a fitting tribute that she should have a permanent trophy presented in her honour, awarded to the best outstanding young entry and won by ‘Gardsman’.
“We had a big parade and the streets were packed, then we went to Groe Park, Cwmdauddwr, where we were joined by our entertainment, Parkour Action and the Wye Valley Ax Men.
“We are delighted with how the event went and look forward to Carnival 2023.”
