Isle of Wight carnival in Ryde as Mardi Gras returns

The carnival comes to Ryde tonight (Thursday) and Southern Vectis has warned of diversions affecting its bus routes.

The main procession starts at 6.30pm, featuring all your favourites, from carnival royalty and marching bands to community floats.

Also to be presented this year is The Queen’s Beasts, from the Platinum Jubilee competition in London.

At 5pm the carnival will assemble at Ryde Canoe Lake, with judging at 5.30pm.

The route will see the procession travel along the Esplanade, Dover Street, Park Road, Star Street, High Street, Union Street, the Esplanade (south side) and disperse from the George Street junction.

Diversions are in place from 18:30 to 23:00.

Southern Vectis routes 4, 9 and 37 will divert from West Street via Spencer Road and St Thomas Street to Ryde Esplanade.

Routes 2, 3 and 8 will divert via St John’s Hill and Green Street to West Street, before following routes 4, 9 and 37 to Ryde Esplanade.
