Hurricane Joelma arrives next Saturday, September 17, for a one-off performance at the Kualistage venue in Barra da Tijuca.
Joelma da Silva Mendes, known as Joelma, is a singer, dancer, choreographer, lyricist, fashion designer and businesswoman. Her artistic career began in 1994 and, since then, she has followed a path that has made her one of the most popular artists in the country, as well as one of the biggest Brazilian performers according to the media and the public.
With 28 years of journey, Joelma joined the Fazer Arte group in 1995 and, from 1999 to 2015, was the leader of The Calypso Bandwhich became popular and broke absolute records in record sales in the country, becoming the only group to win the five-time diamond award.
In 2016 Joelma started her solo career and, since then, she has built, with strong foundations and loyal fans, her trajectory of great success, strength, determination, achievements and awards. With DVDs recorded in PS and Goiânia, EPs, music videos and singles, the artists have renewed and always brought news to their fans! In 2020, during the pandemic, she released the 25th anniversary DVD recorded in Goiânia with special appearances by Xand Avião, Launa Prado and Ludmila Ferber, conquering thousands of shows on digital platforms and YouTube. In the first half of 2021, he released the song “Coração Vencedor”, composed by Tony Brasil, which took over social media and communication tools throughout Brazil. The song currently has more than 6 million views and, on TikTok, more than 22 million pre-release views. The lyrics speak of a wounded and bruised heart that breaks its chains, breaks free, and emerges a new person. All these texts full of feelings and emotions show the strength of the woman, apart from all the claws, determination, effort and empowerment in search of freedom, whether physical or sentimental. In the script of the clip, directed and written by Joelma in partnership with Ricardo Lago from the production Dronando Filmes, she plays different characters in order to show the viewer that with every victory won, you can become stronger and more capable.
“From a very young age, I learned from my mother that we can fall, get up, but never give up. So my view changer, it has 3 views, wants to show just that. I was inspired by Amazons, heroines and oriental warriors, because deep down we have a little of each of them”, comments Joelma.

And, in the second semester, Joelma arrived once again innovative. She released her first composition called “Yes”. This song is part of the “This is Calypso” EP, which combines dance and romantic songs. The clip, written and directed by her, caused a sensation in the press and on social networks and today, the viewership has reached 3 million views. “This song “Yes” is a gift from God to me. When I started writing, I wanted to send a message of love, something that the world and people really need. They cannot stop believing in true love and feeling. And when we thought about the script for the video, we wanted to convey it all through a joyful wedding and unexpected encounters. I really hope you like it, it was made with a lot of heart by me and my whole team”, commented Joelma. “It was a big challenge to act for the first time in a music video. I am very satisfied with the result!”, concludes the artist who is considered an example by countless Brazilian women who fight for their dreams and ideals. At the end of 2021, Joelma ended the year with a golden key by releasing the romantic song “Meu Amor Chega”. This Joelma hit was recorded for the first time outside of Brazil. It was recorded by Joelma in Paris, at the Eiffel Tower, which meant a new phase, a new step for the artist, who always seeks to innovate.

set love as the highest point of his works. Today he is no longer with us,

With the objective of getting the biggest hits of her career with Banda Calypso, she prepared a super show with structure, ballet, excellent band and combining nostalgia with the new of her career. The tour was launched on TV Globo’s Fantástico program, in which a 4-song show was prepared to celebrate the moment. Since then, the artist has been the subject of all the media in Brazil for her new tour and has been guaranteed a presence on numerous TV shows. To warm up before the shows start, Joelma released 2 EPs with 4 songs each titled: “That’s Calypso part 1” and “That’s Calypso part 2”. The songs also gained audiovisual material with a replica of Amazon’s costumes, among other innovations. This material already has more than 2.5 million views on his official YouTube channel. The tour debuted in April at the CTN concert hall in São Paulo. With sold-out tickets, Joelma thrilled the entire audience and was the subject of all the media in Brazil. In May, she recorded the DVD “This is Calypso in the Amazon” for over 25,000 people in Manaus. This project does not have a release date yet.
