It’s carnival time for Keighley

A host of activities are lined up for Keighley Carnival next Saturday (September 10).

The extravaganza will begin with entertainment on Church Green and Airedale Shopping Center from 11.30am.

It will include a huge elephant of puppeteers and performers, among them The Rajasthan Heritage Band – who are currently touring the country and recently appeared at Glastonbury.

And then, from 12.30pm, there will be a parade of local bands and bands around Victoria Park – before a stage show with acts including Stage Invaders, Hit the Lights and Voices of Yorkshire. The stage show will be opened by the Mayor of West Yorkshire, Tracy Brabin. There will also be stables and a fun fair in the park.

A spokesperson for the carnival says: “The committee has worked tirelessly to deliver an event on the scale we believe our city deserves.

“We’ve invested time, effort and money to build a carnival that showcases the city’s talent and celebrates its diversity. A planned street procession has unfortunately been hit with last-minute security issues, but that won’t stop us from offering a wonderful day of fun.

“We ask the community to support the event by coming to Church Green and then joining the celebrations in Victoria Park.”
