Jamaica Consulate General in NY to lead nationals in West Indian American Day Carnival Parade

At the peak of his official calendar of activities commemorating the 60sth On the anniversary of Jamaica’s Independence, the Consulate General of Jamaica in New York says that, for the first time in its history, it will lead compatriots under its official flag in the West Indian Day Carnival Parade in Brooklyn’s East Park , on Labor Day, September 5.

“Our people have worked diligently to build a strong brand and image here in the U.S.,” Consul General Alsion Roach Wilson said in a statement Friday. “Therefore, this event will provide our Jamaican diaspora, our rich cultural heritage and our country with the attention and recognition it deserves, especially given the thousands of participants from New York, states and other countries.

“As we continue to revive our nation to greatness, the Consulate General of Jamaica, New York, remains firmly committed to deepening its ties with the Jamaican diaspora and looks forward to the usual strong Jamaican presence and energy at this event,” she added.

The parade, which begins at 11 a.m., will follow the traditional route along Eastern Parkway, which stretches from Buffalo Avenue to Grand Army Plaza and Flatbush Avenue in Brooklyn.

In addition to the entertainers and millions of spectators along the parade route, Roach Wilson said that “this is also an opportunity for all Caribbean communities to come together and show solidarity as a people.

“Given that this is the first staging since the beginning of the Covid pandemic, it is expected that people will come out to show national pride, including Jamaicans, in this 60th year”, she said.
