Three days after opening their season with a 13-0 thrashing of St Mary’s College, last year’s beaten finalists Jamaica College (JC) were surprisingly held to a goalless draw by St Catherine High at the Prison Oval in the Spanish city on match day five of the ISSA/ Digicel Manning Cup Competition on Friday.
The result allows St Jago High to jump to the top of Group B after a 5-1 win over the St Mary’s College team.
Garnett coach Lawrence St Jago High moved to six points from two games, two ahead of second-placed JC and third-placed St Catherine High, both on four points.
St Jago High got their goals from Jaedee Mitchell (21st minute), Jayden Jones (36th minute), Zaavan Miller (56th minute), Javar Harris (78th minute) and Daniel Cowan (87th minute).
In the other group game, Holy Trinity High earned their first points of the season with a 1-0 win over Cedar Grove High to jump into fourth place with three points.
In Group E, Mona High continued their good start with a comprehensive 3-1 win over Hydel High to maintain their lead at the top of the group with six points. Hydel dropped to third by three points.
Former champions Wolmer’s Boys, under the wily tutelage of Jerome Waite, beat home side Kingston High 2-0 to move into second position with six points.
In a game that saw five players sent off, Camperdown High and Papine High battled to a 1-1 draw at the Alpha Institute.
Three players from Camperdown received red cards and two from Papine.
Camperdown were heavily favored to win but had to settle for a share of the points under the circumstances.
Both Camperdown and Papine are on a point each.
Kingston High, who were beaten 9-0 by Mona High in the first game, finished bottom of the group without a point.
