The Carnival and Regional Carnival Institute (CIRC) of Trinidad and Tobago was delighted to see the return of the John Cupid Carnival Village to this year’s calendar of carnival events after a two-year hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic on Saturday, January 21 2023.
The John Cupid Carnival Village came under the purview of the National Carnival Commission and was named after one of Trinidad and Tobago’s leading scholars and historians, John Cupid. The village paid homage to some of our traditions, culture and music.

There were live performances by some of the local artists namely Olatunji Yearwood, Austin Lyons (Super Blue), Ronnie Mc Intosh, Ramrajie Prabhoo and others as well as an exhibition of artistic creativity, local cuisine and arts and crafts. John Cupid Village is a community carnival of masquerade, music, dance, steel pan and oral traditions.
This village fosters a deeper appreciation of Trinidad and Tobago’s cultural values and raises awareness of the role of the “Mother of All Carnivals” as a social custom and cultural celebration. With opening remarks by our Chairman Winston Gypsy Peters and a Traditional Mas Character procession, the NCC John Cupid Carnival Village 2023 was officially opened to the world.
The night was full of amazing and star-studded concerts and was an unforgettable evening, said the National Carnival Commission of Trinidad and Tobago.
He added, “Some of Trini’s finest cuisine and arts and crafts were available, and admission was free. NCC John Cupid Carnival Village 2023 welcomed everyone with open arms.”
Carnival Village kicked off on Saturday in Trinidad and Tobago. It will continue for three weeks leading up to the carnival weekend. During this time, it will show many performances and cultural treats for visitors, showing some of the best versions of the portrayals of Mas, Pan, Calypso, Soca, Tassa and Traditional Carnival Characters.
