Kelly Kraiss Named Alabama Rowing Assistant Coach

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Head Rowing Coach at Alabama Glenn Putyrae announced the addition of Kelly Kraiss on his coaching staff this week.

Kraiss arrives in Tuscaloosa after a successful season as an assistant coach at Rutgers University, leading the Scarlet Knights’ Second Novice 8+ crew to a Big 10 championship, the first conference title in any event in school history and the Novice 8+ in a third – the end of the country. Overall, the team finished third at the 2022 Big 10 Championships and then qualified for the NCAA Championships, placing 13th.

She also brings a wealth of experience from USRowing, as the U18 and U20 Women’s coach at its High Performance Camp and as the head and assistant coach during two stints overseeing the Southeast Women’s portion of its Olympic Development Camp. In addition, Kraiss worked with the Orlando Area Rowing Society and Atomic Rowing in Oak Ridge, Tenn.

As a rower, she competed at the University of Tennessee from 1999-2003 and was part of the Lady Vols’ first national team and first NCAA Championship appearance in 2003. She was a four-time Academic All-SEC honoree and was named an athlete CRCA National Scholar in 2001.
