WEST Indies opener Brandon King said he is ready to take on New Zealand’s powerful bowling attack when the teams meet in a three-match T20 bowling series on Wednesday from 2.30pm (TT time).

The entire series will be played at Sabina Park in Kingston, Jamaica.

Speaking to the media at Sabina Park on Tuesday, King said: “Obviously they are a world-renowned team. Their bowling attack is very good. I’ve played against them before, so I have that experience to draw on again for this series. I think my game has improved as well, so I think I’m in a better place to face these challenges and support myself.”

Experienced fast bowling duo Tim Southee and Trent Boult are in the New Zealand squad.

West Indies are looking to bounce back after losing to India 4-1 in the five-match T20 series, which ended on Sunday.

“We are all professionals. We just try to learn from the last series,” King said.

“Obviously it wasn’t the best series for us but we also played very good cricket before that (against Bangladesh) so we know how we want to play and we’re looking to continue in that way and play more consistently .”

King said it is difficult to pin down specific areas why they were not more competitive against India. “I wouldn’t say it’s something specific. It’s cricket (and) basically you win some, you lose some. What we would like is to have more consistency in the approach to how we play these games.”

Jamaica recently celebrated 60 years of Independence. King, who is Jamaican, is looking forward to playing at home for the first time at international level.
