Tickets for the next Kingston BETA event on Wednesday, July 27, 2022 in Kingston, Jamaica sold out in less than 24 hours with a long waiting list. It’s the first event since Ingrid Riley, Founder of SiliconCaribe relaunched the iconic 15-year-old tech and startup community event series and handed over the curation of meetups, hackathons and workshops to community member Jermaine Henry, CEO of Norus Tech.
“It’s clear that the excitement and the hunger for it,” Jermaine Henry, CEO of Norus Tech, the newly elected chief curator of what is still the first and longest-running event of the Caribbean tech and startup community.
Kingston BETA ran for 11 consecutive years in Jamaica and also had a massive impact on the Caribbean as Caribbean startups from the Region and Diaspora would participate and pitch their ideas online. He created over 300 events in 10 Caribbean and diaspora countries in the US, UK and Canada, directly inspiring and facilitating over 100,000 entrepreneurs. The event series was discontinued on June 28, 2018 after Founder Ingrid Riley took a break before returning.
“It’s great to see that after a 4-year hiatus, Kingston BETA is as if it never left and the return is being welcomed and celebrated in Jamaica, the Caribbean and the diaspora,” said Ingrid Riley.
As SiliconCaribe and Kingston BETA mark 15 years in the Jamaican and Caribbean tech ecosystem, the mission remains:
To reinforce the people, ideas and businesses that drive the growth of the Caribbean Digital Economy and to educate and inspire the next generation of Caribbean entrepreneurs and innovators.
To change and reinforce the narrative about the Caribbean, which is Beyond the Beach that is Digitizing and Innovating in new ways.
It is great to see sponsors such as VM Wealth Management and iCreate on board to support the growth. We look forward to having more Caribbean and Global companies.
