A stunning century by Kyle Kissondath led Central Zone to a seven-wicket victory against Eastern Zone in the Trinidad and Tobago Cricket Board (TTCB) U19 Interzone finals on Wednesday in Balmain.
Chasing 209 for victory, Central lost Justin Jagessar (2) before Kissondath and Nick Ramlal (69) put together a 181-run partnership for the second wicket.
After Ramlal departed, Kissondath (125 not out) bowled the winning runs to seal a seven-wicket victory and a third straight title for Central at U19 level.
Earlier, East Zone recovered from 37 for 3 to post 208 for 7 with Andrew Rambaran hitting a brilliant 119 not out.
Eastern Zone scored 107 runs in the last 15 overs, but their effort was in vain as Central Zone crashed the runs with 109 balls to spare.
Kissondath was named Player of the Final and also received the award for the highest score in the final.
Central medium pacer Fareez Ali won awards for best bowling figures in the final (3/49) and best fielder.
For Central Zone, this was their sixth U19 Interzone title since 2008 (joint with South East), with wins in 2008, 2010, 2013 (joint with North Zone), 2019 (joint with North Zone ) and 2020.
The TTCB U19 tournament, the first organized in two seasons due to the COVID-19 pandemic, was organized after a $221,000 TT sponsorship deal was signed with Tiger Tanks and Price Club Supermarket.
