When Arsenal unveiled their new Jamaica-inspired pre-match kit last Friday, fans flocked to adidas stores to make sure they got their hands on one ahead of London’s Notting Hill Carnival.
Those in attendance will have noticed the stacks of green, yellow and black geometric T-shirts littered throughout the crowd of millions of fans, proving Arsenal’s presence throughout West London.
As the carnival proceedings got under way on Saturday, Arsenal took to the pitch at the Emirates against Fulham, commissioning the new kits ahead of the match.
Inspired by the rich culture of the community at the heart of the team, particularly the Jamaican fans, the jersey served as a celebration, marking a major cultural moment in the UK. As fans celebrated a 2-1 victory by partying in the streets of London, Grammy Award-winning international reggae singer Koffee joined Carni’s act, performing her smash hits to a rapturous crowd.
During her performance, the singer wore the new jersey designed by adidas, representing her Jamaican roots with a new sporting symbol of London’s biggest events and communities.
The star paired the outfit with a pair of adidas Firebird green pants with white Three Stripe branding, triple white Superstars, a yellow striped beanie, gold-rimmed glasses and matching jewelry.
Unsurprisingly, the new set has flown off the shelves (both physical and virtual), with fans eager for refills. Whether or not that will come is yet to be seen, but if the popularity of the 2018 Nike home kit in Nigeria is anything to go by, they will most likely be back in the coming weeks.
