Lady Vol Tennis Signs Leyla Britez Risso

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. Head coach Alison Ojeda announced the signing of Leyla Britez Risso on Tuesday morning. Britez Risso to join Lady Volunteers is a mid-year enrollee and will join the team for the Spring 2023 season.

“With Jarryd Chaplin and I being alumni, it’s even more important for both of us to bring in high-character student-athletes who are also very good tennis players,” coach Alison Ojeda said of the signing. “I confidently say that Layla fits exactly that mold. We are excited to add her to the team this coming January and truly expect her to make an immediate impact on our program.”

Britez Risso is the highest ranked junior ITF player from Paraguay and is ranked 112th in the overall junior rankings. She recently competed in the US Junior Open in New York, New York and was a participant in the Billie Jean King Cup in April.

“Through the process of recruiting her, we really got to know her and her family,” continued Ojeda. “They are standup people and we know she will bring a lot of character and energy to our team this year.”

Britez Risso currently has a 9.77 rating on the Universal Tennis Rating index and won a singles championship this summer at J5 Lamare in Paraguay.

The addition of the newcomer rounds out Tennessee’s roster for the Spring 2023 season. In total, four newcomers join the Lady Vol ranks this offseason as UT with Lauren Anzalotta, Katerina AuliaAshtin Hara and now Britez Risso.
