Langlee Carnival returns and pays respects to Queen Elizabeth II

AFTER being suspended for two years due to the coronavirus, the Langlee Carnival made a triumphant return at the weekend.

Thankfully the sun came out after heavy rain earlier in the week.

And the whole community of Langlee came together to enjoy the day.

One of the organizers shared on social networks: “After a day of reflection, the only conclusion I can come to yesterday is, what a brilliant day.

“Thank you so much to each and every one of you who turned up and made the day so wonderful.

“It’s been a tough few years for everyone, but having affordable family fun days out will hopefully make life a little happier again.”

The carnival was opened by Langlee Lads Jamie Russell and Corey Murray and Langlee Lass Aimee Quinn.

Like many events this weekend, the Langlee Carnival paid its respects to Queen Elizabeth II after she died on Thursday.

Ahead of the festival, organizers said: “We are deeply saddened by the passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.

“Although we appreciate that it is a sad time for the nation we feel at the moment and with the past difficult years it is good to bring the community together again.

“The carnivals will go ahead as planned after we seek advice from Live Borders and the SBC [Scottish Borders Council].

“Please note prior to the opening ceremony we will be holding a minute’s applause in honor and respect of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.”

In addition to a standing ovation for Her Majesty, a specialty tea was served at the Carnival to celebrate her reign.

Organizers added: “We would like to thank everyone who sponsored, donated and helped us on our day.

“We are not a profit making event, each year pays for the following year, so everyone who contributes to our event is very grateful.

“We would like to thank everyone for their help on the day as well.
