MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University women’s soccer team prepares for its final road game of the 2022 regular season with a trip to Norman, Oklahoma, to face Oklahoma on Sunday, Oct. 23. Kickoff at John Crain Field is set for 2:00 PM ET.
Sunday’s game will be broadcast live on SoonerVision on ESPN+, while live stats from the contest are also available on WVUsports.com.
This weekend’s game marks the 14th meeting between West Virginia and Oklahoma, as WVU holds a 12-0-1 all-time advantage in the series. The Highlanders are undefeated at home while also being undefeated in games played in Norman – the only tie in the series coming in 2015 at OU. Last season, West Virginia won 2-0 in Morgantown on second-half scoring Dilary Heredia-Beltran AND Lilly McCarthy. The two teams have met in the regular season during Big 12 Conference play, as well as in the Big 12 Tournament.
High goalkeeper Kayza Massey ranks second in the Big 12 Conference with six shutouts on the year, while the sophomore offensive tackle Dilary Heredia-Beltran is third in the league in assists per game (0.40) and fourth in total assists (6). Additionally, the fifth-year senior linebacker Jordan Brewster currently ranks second all-time in program history with 94 career starts. She is expected to tie the program record of 95, set by Sh’Nia Gordon in 2015-18, on Sunday at OU.
Last time out, a late equalizer from the tall defender Gabrielle Robinson helped WVU earn a 1-1 tie with Oklahoma State on Oct. 20. West Virginia pulled away with less than 10 minutes left in the game, but Robinson scored in the 84th minute to help the Mountaineers tie the game. Robinson’s goal was her first of the season and just the second of her career. The assist was credited to the senior forward/defender Julianne Vallerandher second of the campaign and fifth of her career.
The final box score saw West Virginia beat Oklahoma State, 18-9, as the Mountaineers put up seven shots on goal and held the Cowgirls to just three shots in the frame.
Mark Carr is in his third season at the helm of the OU women’s soccer program, having joined the team in January 2020. Prior to Oklahoma, Carr coached the U-20 Women’s National Team as it prepared for World Cup qualifiers.
The Sooners are 8-5-3 this season, including 3-3-1 in conference play after picking up a big, 2-1 win over No. 12 TCU on Oct. 20, to move into fifth place in the league.
Senior forward Emma Hawkins leads the Oklahoma offense in goals (6), points (12) and rebounds (44), while freshman forward Alexis Washington leads the team with eight assists on the season. In net, Olivia Ramey and Makinzie Short have shared goaltending duties this season. Leads with 32 saves, while Ramey boasts a .706 save percentage.
