Latin America: ‘Pink Tide’ may have peaked

Dramatic elections in Brazil, Chile and Colombia brought left-wing governments to power in much of Latin America in 2022, heralding the region’s second “pink tide” in two decades.

However, their struggles amid continuing economic headwinds suggest the tide may have turned. An anti-establishment current that has fueled the left may soon swing the other way in a major election.

To have the staying power of the left renaissance of the last century, governments must revive economies that have frustrated voters and investors alike in a decade of mostly average growth.
