Cacique Xavante Cererê, chief of the Xavantes tribe and one of the prominent leaders of the Brazilian Spring protests, was arrested this evening, December 12, by the Federal Police by order of Alexandre de Moraes in front of the Alvorada Palace – the presidential residence.
A direct insult to the President and an escalation of the crisis between the powers in the country.
After the arrest, demonstrators tried to storm the Federal Police building, but were dispersed with rubber bullets and stun grenades.
Several cars have been damaged by the protesters, who remain in place despite the police action.
At about 8:30 p.m., the demonstrators were still there, throwing stones at police vehicles. The agents used tear gas bombs.
