Ledbury Carnival 2022 organisers delighted with event outcome

Around 4,000 people turned out for this year’s carnival in Ledbury to leave organizers “delighted”

The full town parade has finally returned to Ledbury after a three-year hiatus due to the effects of the pandemic.

This year’s carnival was the 48th and took place in the town centre, High Street, lower part of The Homend, Bye Street Market House and Bye Street Car Park.

Janet Meredith, one of the Carnival organizers said: “A warm and sunny Monday was an encouraging start for Ledbury Carnival which returned after a three year absence with a crowd of around 4,000 visitors.

“Response from carnival visitors was very positive with few complaints about the variety of stalls and afternoon entertainment.

“The Carnival Committee was delighted with the outcome of the event and said it had made all the hard work and planning worthwhile.

A procession left at noon to travel in convoy to the center of the city.

The town was also filled with a selection of stalls run by local non-profit groups and charities.

Each year, the Ledbury Carnival is themed, with this year’s headlines Ledbury Blooms.

Despite the fact that the pandemic has affected the normality of the event, the organizers still tried their best to realize the event in new formats.

In 2020, a video showing highlights from previous carnivals and some new footage was released instead of the usual festivities.

In 2021, a smaller event called “Party in the Car Park” was organized at St Katherine’s.

Previous themes from the carnival have included Heroes and Visitors, A Maritime Carnival and Step Back in Time.

The carnival is described as a community event with the aim of providing a day of fun and enjoyment for all.

Local and national charities, local clubs and groups were all invited to use the event for fundraising purposes.

The festival was brought to Ledbury in association with the Horticulture Show at the community centre.
