LEWIS COUNTY, W.Va. (WBOY) – The Lewis County Fair Carnival has been canceled this year due to staff shortages. Fair members are working to fill the grounds and schedule additional activities. The fair will continue on September 22, 23 and 24 at WVU Jackson’s Mill Air Strip.
Officials said they never considered canceling the fair because the carnival failed. While they tried to hire another company for the carnival, they were unable to find a replacement.
“We understand that a lot of people will be upset about not having a carnival, but the overall economic impact of simply canceling the event is not what we would like to see in our area,” said Jessica Luzader, State Fair official. Lewis County.
The Lewis County Fair will continue with the help of other local businesses. The bouncy castle and bouncy area will offer various bounce houses for children. Luzader said that even though they won’t be having a carnival, they’re still offering some kind of entertainment for everyone.
“A carnival is just a small part of what we have at our fair. We have taken ideas from past years and tried to bring to life what we could. We will have lots of motorsport racing this year starting on Thursday night with UTV Barrel Racing, Friday night with our Demolition Derby put on by Thomas Motor Sports, and ending on Saturday with a car show, truck side by side race, mud and burnout race,” Luzader said.
Starting Friday night, there’s a lineup of West Virginia singers with Nashtown recording artist Morgan White. They will feature Michael Bonnett and Rivers Edge from Elkins, and closing out the fair will be The Sodapopgypsie Band. On Saturday there will be a variety of competitions, from a ‘Mullet Contest’ to a ‘Pretty Baby’. On Saturday, there will be three shows from Ohio’s Dino Roar Tour featuring live interactive dinosaurs.
Gate admission is $5 for Thursday and $10 for Friday and Saturday. Children 2 and under are free.
