The Data Services seminar series is designed to provide faculty and students with training in data management, software platforms for data visualization and analysis, and data sourcing.

Getting Started with R and RStudio
This workshop will introduce participants to the use of R and RStudio. No prior knowledge of programming is required, just a basic understanding of computer files and folders.

Special Topic in R and RStudio: Exploratory Data Analysis with Tidyverse
This workshop will introduce participants to using the Tidyvese package in R to perform tasks such as reading data, analyzing data, and plotting data. Participants are expected to have attended the Getting Started with R and RStudio workshop or have some basic knowledge of using R.

Introduction to research data management
This workshop will show you how to manage research data throughout its lifecycle: creation, processing, analysis, storage and reuse. Topics covered include organizing data, using file naming conventions, writing a data management plan, and preparing to share data.

Open Science Licensing Your Dataor
If I deposit data from my experiment, can I check how other people use it? Can the right to data be protected? Why should I openly license my data? In this webinar, we’ll explore questions like these and provide suggestions for sharing and reusing data. How and why open licensing of your data can avoid copyright issues for international collaboration.

This workshop will explain the conventions of writing about data, including integrating tables and graphs, using the passive voice, and writing successful summaries.

This workshop will introduce two of the major repositories of social science research data: the Interuniversity Consortium for Political and Social Research and the Roper Center for Public Opinion Research.

This workshop will introduce participants to using Python to aggregate official publications from all three branches of the federal government from the govINFO resource. Participants are expected to have attended the Getting Started with Python workshop or have some basic knowledge of using Python.

Special Topic in Python: Text Mining with HathiTrust
In this workshop participants will learn how to do moderately advanced text mining analysis approaches using feature extracted datasets created by the HathiTrust Research Center and apply Python scripts to the data. Participants are expected to have attended the Getting Started with Python workshop or have some basic knowledge of using Python.
