Linus Tech Tips apologizes to Pokimane for a recent Twitter feud

Fans were surprised to see when two famous content creators, Imane “Pokimane” and Linus Sebastian of Linus Tech Tips, went head-to-head on Twitter earlier this month.

The controversy started when Linus commented that Twitch as a live streaming platform requires the inclusion of more ads and advertisers for it to survive.

Imane first reacted to the YouTuber’s stance and stated that Twitch should not add ads directly to the stream and should start adding ads to the sidebar or some other way.

imo twitch should just implement ads that don’t directly interfere with a stream (sidebar, picture in picture, subs, etc). I understand that advertisers are essential to making a platform profitable, but interfering with the viewer’s experience is not the way they should be operating 😦

The conversation between the two creators died down for a few days, but on May 5, Pokimane updated her fans by uploading a statement in the form of a notes document after Linus called the former an “unnamed creator” in a mocking tone.

Today, when Linus hosted his weekly podcast known as The WAN Show, he sought to end the controversy by apologizing for his actions and saying that:

“It will be I, solemnly swearing, I cross my heart, I hope to die, never again needlessly quarrel with another creator.”

Linus talks about the drama and apologizes to Pokimane during the last WAN show

Earlier today, Linus Tech Tips’ alternative YouTube channel, LMG Clips, uploaded an eight-minute video titled “I’m sorry, nodThis is taken straight from the latest WAN show when Linus apologized for calling out the famous Twitch star.

Linus gave context to his viewers when he said:

“Pokimane rightly took issue with some of my comments on the previous WAN show, I think her initial point at least in the limited context I had, because it was a tweet, therefore I shouldn’t have addressed it in the first place. “

He further said:

“I think it wasn’t an amazing take, but I shouldn’t have reacted the way I did because obviously there were a lot of extra layers to her thinking, which she actually very kindly expressed to me in a way I can understand too, which is great.”

As his talk continued, Linus talked about the online careers of various influencers and talked about how he’s continued to build his brand on YouTube.

The tech YouTuber clarified that he wasn’t looking to start a beef with the famous Moroccan-Canadian live stream and gave his side of the story saying:

“The reality is, I didn’t want to start a beef with her. It wasn’t about her style or anything like that. That’s just how I like Valley Girl’s voice and one of the reasons I do Valley’s voice. Girl is I’ll often do it as an exaggeration of the way I already speak.”

He mentioned that he received a lot of backlash for his Valley Girl impersonation and will tone it down in the future and apologized for it.

Finally Linus added:

“Even though I don’t follow her, I tend to get those tweets promoted to me and I think the reason I like them, the knee-jerk reaction to her was because I was like, I thought she got it! And that seemed like she didn’t get it and it turns out she gets it super and I was the only one who didn’t get it. So, um, good!”

After the false statements, Linus continued to host his podcast and talked about other things and happenings in the tech world.
