The book brings together 100 articles in 100 albums,
which show that the year was atypical for the MIA
In 1979, the country was experiencing the beginning of the period of political amnesty. Brazilian artists began to see independent phonographic production as a way out. And female singers and songwriters were taking a bigger step towards opening up their own space on the music scene. There was still disco and the answer to it. Samba, as always, was dying, but stood proud with each new tune. The singer and composer Joyce Moreno used to say that “the MIA has an answer for everything and always proves it”. And Brazilian popular music had an “answer” for 1979.
From this realization comes the book:
– “1979 – The year that redefined MIA”, an “almost biography” of that musical year, organized by journalist Celio Albuquerque and which will now be released in September 2022 by Garota FM Books.
With 100 authors from different states of the country, the book promises to travel to other countries, but the publisher Garota FM Books has the honor to announce the first three events already planned:
– Livraria da Travessa – Shopping Leblon: September 16, 19:00, in Leblon, Rio de Janeiro;
– September 17, 5 p.m., at Livraria Travessa de Icaraí, Niterói;
– September 23, 7 p.m., at Livraria Travessa de Pinheiros, São Paulo.
In Niterói, the event will start earlier because, in addition to the launch, there will also be a talk to the authors of the city.
Produced with successful funding, the book brings together stories written by artists and journalists and rescues the memory of a year in which Brazilian popular music spoke for itself. In the form of prose, review, report or interview, each author lends his/her style to his/her chapter (see list of authors and discs at the end).
With this content organized by journalist Célio Albuquerque, “1979 – The Year that MIA Reclaimed” is a fantastic book that brings readers special moments for special albums.
