Long Beach Airport Showcases CORE 2021 Art Exhibit

Long Beach Airport is showing a 14-piece art exhibit, CORE 2021, curated by Able ARTS Work now through December.

CORE 2021 is a collection made by local artists of all abilities, as well as resident artists of Able ARTS Work.

Able ARTS Work is a local non-profit organization that provides a variety of services to those with developmental disabilities, autism and all people through several different creative arts therapies.

Long Beach is known for its rich art culture, being home to various museums such as the Museum of Latin American Art and the Long Beach Museum of Art.

Airport Director Cynthia Guidry said she welcomes this art exhibit to highlight the local arts and culture scene while offering guests a unique experience in Long Beach.

“This exhibit is a great addition to our airport and an amazing way to showcase the incredible work of Long Beach artists—especially artists with disabilities,” Mayor Robert Garcia said in a recent press release.

The art aims to highlight the unique connections formed during the artistic process and will be displayed on the large construction barriers around the construction of the new baggage loading area. It will appear in about five months.

Helen Doas, Founder and CEO of Able ARTS Work said of the program and exhibit, “The CORE 2021 exhibit opened for the first time on May 8, 2021, in our 2nd & PCH gallery space and we are proud to bring back this show of powerful arts, health and community on an even greater scale through this partnership with Long Beach Airport. Research tells us that there are two things that bring peace to our hearts and minds, the arts and nature. In this exhibition you see both. Art brings the community together, it tells a story when you look at it, it gives you an aesthetic perspective that all of humanity needs for a quality of life.”

“This exhibition by Able ARTS’ extraordinary resident artists and professional community artists demonstrates how diversity and inclusion can benefit everyone and have a powerful impact. This is the vision and philosophy of Able ARTS Work as we continue to partner with the community and offer these valuable experiences in our new space at Bixby Knolls,” she continued.
