Lovell says PM Browne should just call the elections and stop the gimmickry and trickery

The list of promises made by Prime Minister Gaston Browne on ABS television on Sunday night, October 9, is nothing but electoral, says Harold Lovell, Political Leader of the United Progressive Party (UPP), as he makes another call on Browne to called the election now.

Among several other undertakings, Browne promised to pay off civil servant salaries and debts to creditors and raise the minimum wage.

However, Lovell says these promises are mere election stunts by a desperate government that knows it is about to lose power. And while the prime minister has expressed confidence in winning all 17 electoral mandates, he seems to be running scared, says the head of the UPP.

Therefore, Lovell says the Browne administration hopes its promises will secure a victory at the polls. But, he adds, the people will no longer be deceived by these types of deceptions.

Meanwhile, Lovell says some of the statements the prime minister made on national television didn’t make sense — especially borrowing money to fulfill some of those promises. He notes that it is the citizens and residents who will have to repay these loans – from the same money they are now being promised.

The political leader adds that the timing of these promises – on the eve of the general elections – is suspicious and this shows that the Labor Party government is doing everything to stay in power.
