Dinesh Karthik set the stage on fire in the first T20I against West Indies on Friday (July 29) by scoring an unbeaten 41 runs from just 19 balls to help the Men in Blue post a total of 190 runs on the board for the loss of six wickets. The 37-year-old, on his much-anticipated comeback, is making sure he leaves no chance to secure his place in the Indian squad for the upcoming edition of the T20 World Cup.
The 2022 edition of the T20 World Cup will be held in Australia from October 16 to November 13. There are less than three months left and teams and players have stepped up their preparations. India is likely to announce the squad in the coming days, so it becomes all the more important that the players are at their best and catch the attention of the selectors.

This year, Karthik has emerged as one of the best number six batsmen in the shortest format of the game. He did an outstanding job for Royal Challengers Bangalore in the IPL earlier this year due to which he earned a return to the Indian T20I team and with them too, in the limited opportunities he has had so far, he has impressed.

After his Man of the Match performance in the first T20I against Men in Maroon, he was caught up for an interview by Indian veteran Ravichandran Ashwin, who is also Dinesh’s state teammate. The duo play for Tamil Nadu in domestic cricket.
And the way Ashwin introduced Karthik, she totally hit it off. The 35-year-old made a hilarious reference to Brian Lara to kick off the post-match interview, which was played at the Brian Lara Cricket Stadium in Tarouba, Trinidad.

Ashwin said, “Greetings from Trinidad and Tobago. This is the Brian Lara Cricket Stadium. Brian Lara announced his retirement in 2007. There is only one player left when Brian Lara was actually playing cricket, and he is here, playing in Brian Lara Stadium, and how. Great knock, Dinesh. How does it feel to be here?”

Reacting to Ashwin’s opening note, Karthik thanked him saying, “Very good, nice presentation. Thank you. I really enjoyed it.”

BCCI shared the video of the presentation as well as the interview on its Twitter handle.

Ashwin was also part of India’s playing XI in the first T20I and returned with figures of 2 for 22 in four overs. The second-highest batsman for India in Test matches had earlier had an opportunity to showcase his talent with the bat and he remained unbeaten on 13 balls off 10 balls.
