Mahogany lands Gold Cup at odds of 5-1 Loop Jamaica

MAHOGANY closed out the final pair at Caymanas Park for trainer Ian Parsard on Saturday by winning the Grade I Gold Cup by three lengths ahead of the United States-bred RUNAWAY ALGO.

The galloping five-year-old pounced on leader SHE’S MY DESTINY coming out of the home turn to win the 7-mile Gold Cup in 1:25.3, extending his record to 13 wins from 21 starts.

MAHOGANY won at 5-1 odds with jockey Reyan Lewis, firing a warning shot at rivals ahead of the US$125,000 Mouttet Mile on December 3, making up for his September 10 loss to American I AM FRED at six miles.

Jamaica Derby winner ATOMICA, the 2-5 favorite, completed the track with Dane Dawkins after a tough ride along the rail in the back stretch.

Parsard’s BRINKS easily won the Kilowatt Cup at seven miles for non-winners of four races.

BRINKS gave leading rider Dane Dawkins his first win in four meetings after defending champion Anthony Thomas had reduced his lead to one at the top of the riders’ standings over the three-meeting Heroes holiday weekend.

Racing continues into the weekend with cards Saturday-Sunday.
