Make-A-Wish Australia Set To Partner Cox Plate Carnival For The Next Two Years

Moonee Valley Racing Club (MVRC) has announced that Make-A-Wish Australia will be its Cox Plate Carnival Charity Pin partner for the next two years.

With this year marking the centenary of the WS Cox Plate, the Club aims to spotlight Make-A-Wish as an important charity at the start of the feature event in October.

MVRC CEO Michael Browell said: “Make-A-Wish Australia has been a long-term charity partner of MVRC for several years and it gives me great pleasure to be able to align the amazing work of this charity with the centenary of the race our flagship, the WS Cox Plate.”

Make-A-Wish creates life-changing wishes for critically ill children. Her mission is to grant the wish of every eligible child – a quest fueled by the belief that a wish is an integral part of a child’s treatment.

Make-A-Wish CEO Sally Bateman said: “We are thrilled to have been selected as the 2022 and 2023 Cox Plate Carnival Charity partner at what will be such an important time in the Club’s history. Make-AWish currently has over 800 children on their wish journey and this amazing opportunity will go towards making more wishes come true, bringing hope and joy to sick children and their families.”

The MVRC will launch the popular Cox Plate Carnival Charity Stake Sale at the next race meeting on Saturday 3rd September – Ladbrokes Cox Plate Qualifying Day. This meeting will kick off a series of future events and other race meetings where people can buy the Cox Plate Carnival Charity Pin in the months and weeks leading up to this year’s WS Cox Plate.

This announcement follows three wonderful years of a successful Cox Plate Carnival Charity Pin partnership between Ronald McDonald House Charities Vic & Tas and MVRC and before that the Royal Children’s Hospital.

Rozalee Erceg, general manager, The Valley added: “It’s such a privilege to be able to work with these amazing charities. Over the past six, the Club has raised and donated over $175,000 to support the vital work undertaken by our Cox Plate Pin partners. In the 100th year of our great race, we hope to make our biggest contribution ever through the programme.”

The Cox Plate charity pin will be available to buy from our merchandise stands at The Valley or online from 3rd September.
