Several people were injured after a carnival broke out in Mohali late on Sunday evening. According to information, a carnival was being organized at the Dussehra Ground and the incident took place around 10:00 pm when people were shooting at the vertical tower.
According to eyewitnesses, at least 15 to 16 people, mostly children and women, were injured in the incident.
“We saw people falling out of their skins when it went up. There were children and women sitting in it,” said one woman, adding that people gathered at the carnival helped take the injured to hospitals.
DSP (Town 2), HS Bal told The Indian Express that according to their information, four people were injured, but they are investigating the matter. “A carnival was being organized and the eyewitness told us that there was a technical hurdle in the swing and it had fallen,” said DSP Bal.
All the organizers of the carnival are suspected to have left the venue. The Mohali Trade Fair, where the incident took place, was to continue till September 11. Mohali Deputy Commissioner Amit Talwar said they will conduct an inquiry to see if the organizers had permission from the relevant authorities to hold the carnival.
