September 8, 2022; Washington DC – The Life Package is adding an anchor host to its list of contributors. Marielle Segarra, recently from mARkETS, will be the first regular host of the podcast and radio show, starting this week. Andee Tagle, currently an associate producer on the show, will join Segarra in the newly created role of reporter-producer.

From sleep to saving money to parenting and more, NPR’s The Life Package offers reliable, non-judgmental advice to help listeners navigate our complicated times. The award-winning podcast engages significant audiences with original content on Instagram, web and radio. With useful content that fits the day and a rich, comprehensive voice, The Life Package attracts one of NPR’s youngest and most diverse audiences.

“What I want for The Life Package is that it’s honest and vulnerable,” Segarra said. “Every episode feels like a treat. Hosts are telling you: look, you’re not alone and we’ve taken the time to figure out how to help you. Basically: we’ve got your back.

“I mean, our lives get so busy. There are all these things that we write on Post-its or put in our Google calendars (or if you’re me, in a draft email) … things that we want to we get it, but don’t have the mental energy to research or follow up. The Life Package it does this lesson for people and helps them finally cope with the tasks that have been left over their heads. And the conversations on the show also help listeners live more meaningful, considered lives. I am very excited to join this team.”

The Life Package has been my home for nearly three years, and I’m honored to step into this new role as we begin our next chapter,” said Tagle. “This show completely changed my definition of service journalism, and I feel very fortunate to have I get to play and experiment in a team filled with so many intelligent, creative and thoughtful people. I know Marielle will only serve to expand and elevate what we do – I’m thrilled to have her and look forward to learning from her.”

“I’m so excited for our audience to meet Marielle,” said Beth Donovan, Senior Director of Life Kit & Special Projects. “We know our listeners depend on us for evidence-based service journalism, and Marielle will infuse that effort with warmth, expertise in personal finance and curiosity about all things that can make our days easier and brighter. And many of our listeners already know Andee, who has hosted episodes on dealing with likability, relationship contracts, moving on a budget, and more. Andee is also our face Dear Life Kit series, and I look forward to the innovation and enthusiasm she will bring to the reporter-producer role.”

Segarra joins NPR from mARkETS, where she helped people understand how important economics are relevant to their lives. Over the years, she has reported stories on Amazon’s counterfeiting problem, the lack of paid family leave in the US, the origin story of the summer song, the role of makeup during a pandemic, and the difficult experience of returning to an office in August 2020 .

And as a podcast host, she talked about US refugee policy, green energy, the war in Ukraine, film Beautycauliflower smoothies, hairless cats, inflation, mental health, honoring her ancestors, sea urchin hunting in Puerto Rico and much more.

Most recently, she presented a long episode about a boy who dreamed his whole life of becoming a nude model. She’s also found plenty of opportunities to sing (badly) in her stories, and one time the song was Baby Shark.

Prior to Marketplace, Marielle worked at WHYY in Philadelphia. She has also taught audio journalism at Columbia University, and she trains reporters and producers how to write and deliver scripts that sound like them.

She has lived in New York for most of her life, but has yet to visit the Statue of Liberty.

asset The Life Package, Tagle helps create audio and written stories on all things action journalism and is often lucky enough to make podcasts inspired by her personal misadventures. She has hosted episodes on dealing with likability, relationship contracts and learning to be a good loser; and has produced episodes on everything from finding the right mentor to better listening to how to find your singing voice.

Tagle joined NPR as an Arts Desk intern in 2019, where she wrote film and book reviews, adapted interviews, and shamelessly watched hour after hour of “research” TV. Originally from Los Angeles, she holds a BS in Communications from UCLA, and an MA in Journalism with a concentration in Arts and Culture from the Craig Newmark Graduate School of Journalism at CUNY. She recently moved to San Diego with her husband and is on a constant pursuit of the best breakfast burrito.
