Marshall enters Thursday’s game with four conference points, placing the Pack fifth in the Sun Belt East. Marshall’s opponent Georgia Southern enters the game with five points in Sun Belt play. Two points separate second and sixth place in the Sun Belt East.
First year goalkeeper Alexis Wolgemuth has started each of the last three games for Marshall. The Lincolnton, North Carolina native has made 12 saves in those games, recording her second clean sheet of the season in the team’s last game at ULM. Her average of 4.83 saves per game is tops in the SBC.
Senior Morgan White leads the Sun Belt Conference in goals (8), goals per game (0.73), points (17) and points per game (1.55).
Senior Kat Gonzalez leads the league with 42 total hits. Her average of 3.82 shots per game is second in the conference.
Marshall faces Georgia Southern for the fourth time, leading the series 2-1. The Thundering Herd last faced the Eagles in 2007, winning 2-0 in Statesboro.
ABOUT THE ALKANS
Leading Georgia Southern is third-year head coach Chris Adams. Adams joined Georgia Southern after a successful stint at North Georgia. Adams has an overall coaching record of 213-110-37.
Georgia Southern was picked to finish fourth in the Sun Belt East Preseason Poll. Georgia Southern is 2-3-5 on the season, and 1-1-2 in the SBC.
Elis Nemtsov is the team’s top scorer with three goals. Erin Wilkins has three assists to lead the Eagles.
Goalie Katie Oakley has played in seven games for the Eagles. Oakley was named the Sun Conference Women’s Defensive Player of the Week on Sept. 6 for her role in a scoreless shutout, making seven saves in the game.
