The unbeaten Masqueraders are not taking their opponents lightly in today’s Sports and Culture Fund sponsored U-19 Cricket Cup final.
Led by all-rounder Andrew Rambaran, the Masqueraders take on the Flamingos in the title match, contested over 50 overs a side at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy (BLCA) in Tarouba from 9.30am.
Masqueraders coach Stephen Ramkissoon said that despite their success so far, he has always told his players that every game starts from scratch.
However, he said they are confident and looking forward to playing in the BLCA, which for some will be their first time.
The Masqueraders completed their three-match preliminary round schedule with a maximum point that included a win over their finals rivals the Flamingos.
However, Ramkissoon said the focus will be on the day when they will have to start all over again in a bid to avoid the Flamingos taking revenge in the grudge match.
Among those who have featured prominently for the Masqueraders leading to the final is opening batsman and wicketkeeper Verran Batchu, who scored a century in the final round to follow the 92 in the previous encounter that won him man of the match. prices.
Ramkissoon said that Kendall Poonchoon, Kyle Kissondath and Ricardo Chase, who fell in order, also made important contributions.
Their bowling has also been impressive, with Avalon Changoor claiming a hat-trick in their loss to Scarlet Ibis in round three. Captain Rambaran is also proving to be a useful all-rounder alongside Joshua Davis.
Meanwhile, the coach of the Flamingo team, Nizar Mohammed, said that his team will work hard to turn the tables on their opponents.
Mohammed said the Masqueraders will be out of their comfort zone having played and won their three preliminary round matches at the National Cricket Center in Balmain.
The Flamingo coach said his team’s batting can be relied upon and should be up to the task today. And his fast bowling team, including Liam Mamchan, Joshua James and Alexander Chase, has performed well and would pose a challenge to the Masqueraders’ batting.
He also singled out spinner Jordan Mohammed as one who could make a big impact in the finals with his flight and various moves to fool bowlers. Another advantage he said was that several members of the team have had a BLCA experience playing in the Dream Eleven T10 Blast.
