Maxwell continues Courtyard Concert Series with Lone Piñon : UNM Newsroom

Local quartet Lone Piñon will perform at the University of New Mexico’s Maxwell Museum of Anthropology’s second Courtyard Concert Series on Thursday, August 25 at 6:30 p.m. This is a free event open to all ages. Also, his museum and shop will be open during the concert.

Lone Piñon is a young Mexican string group whose music celebrates the integrity and diversity of their region’s cultural roots. With fiddle, bass, guitar, accordion, vihuela and bilingual vocals, they play a wide spectrum of traditional music that is at home in New Mexico. The quartet consists of Jordan, Tanya, Karina and Santiago.

While tickets are sold out, their music can be enjoyed from the Museum’s ticket-free area just outside the courtyard! Additionally, before the band takes the stage, anyone can attend a community music jam from 5 – 6:30pm – no ticket needed. Just bring your instrument(s) and enjoy good company, fresh fruit and refreshments lemonade.

Already, two great musicians have confirmed their participation: multi-instrumentalist David Garcia and didgeridoo player Gordon Ambrosino. At work is the participation of members of the UNM Chicana and Chicano Studies Department, who gather regularly to play they are jarocho with its poetic lyrics, communal strumming of JaranasAND tap dance!

This event is sponsored by the Maxwell Museum of Anthropology, the UNM Museum of Art, the UNM Department of Anthropology, UNM El Centro de la Raza, and the UNM Latin American and Iberian Institute. It is the second of three concerts, each featuring excellent local and regional artists. Join the Maxwell Museum as it transforms its intimate courtyard into a unique cultural venue.

The final concert of the series is set for Friday, September 30th at 6:30pm and features a Dance Party with DJ Randy Boogie + DJ Garronteed. Get more details and tickets online.
