Mayor Domenic J. Sarno, Ward 3 City Councilman Melvin Edwards and past Parade Marshal and Springfield Fire District Chief Curt Marcellin joined the Springfield Carnival Association and the African American Caribbean Athletic Social Club ( CAAASC) to celebrate the Caribbean Cultural Festival and Parade today at CAAASC on State Street. Mayor Sarno brought greetings and presented a proclamation to Gloria Scarlett, President of CAAASC, declaring Monday, August 1, 2022 as “Caribbean Cultural Festival and Parade Day” in the City of Springfield.
CAAASC announced that Paulette Henderson, Funeral Director for Henderson Funeral Home and Cremation Services, as the Carnival Parade Grand Marshal. Ms. Henderson was presented with the Grand Marshal sash by Valbert Johnson, Chairman of the Springfield Carnival Association.
Mayor Sarno states, “I want to thank both CAAASC President Gloria Scarlett and Springfield Carnival Association President Valbert Johnson and their respective teams for continuing to maintain this wonderful tradition; the costumes, music and food are amazing and a must see. I know Vera O’Connor is smiling down on us from heaven. Congratulations Ms. Paulette Henderson for being honored as Grand Marshal for the Carnival Parade. My administration is proud to support the Springfield Carnival Association’s mission to enhance and promote cultural and educational activities in Springfield and surrounding communities. I have proudly donated to support the Springfield Caribbean Carnival Associations Scholarship program that assists high school seniors of Caribbean heritage pursuing higher education. Today and every day, the City of Springfield is proud to welcome and recognize the Springfield Carnival Association and the African Caribbean American Caribbean Athletic Social Club as we come together to celebrate Caribbean Heritage.
Mayor Sarno will march in the Caribbean parade on Saturday, August 20, 2022. The parade will start at Rebecca Johnson and go to Blunt Park.
