Media professionals shine at CBU Caribbean Media Awards 2021

The Caribbean Broadcasting Union (CBU) Caribbean Media Awards ceremony returned this year with Dutch, English and Spanish Caribbean media houses topping the list of awards announced during the 53rd general assembly of the Caribbean Broadcasting Union (CBU). Caribbean (CBU).

The event was held in Tobago, at the Shaw Park Cultural Complex on August 16.

The excellent work of regional media professionals was recognized in a competition that invited entries from Caribbean media houses, whether or not they are CBU members. The main partner of the event was the Telecommunications Authority of Trinidad and Tobago (TATT).

“It was an opportunity to celebrate excellence created in challenging circumstances,” said CBU president Dr Claire Grant.

She went on to emphasize that “CBU wanted to acknowledge the work done by the entire Caribbean media sector, not just its 37 member organisations. It is encouraging to note the wide range of organisations, across the region, small and large, that have produced award-winning work.”

Entries were judged by a five-member panel comprising lead judge Enrico Woolford, Dr Sharon Marshall, Dr Yvonne Weekes, Zadie Neufville and Andrew Millington.

In a message to the winners, Woolford said, “The process highlighted the fact that a huge amount of production is needed to get great content out there on any or all platforms. With the plethora of platforms available, winning in any category is an achievement. The process shows that the Caribbean can produce Content.”

Submissions were invited in 46 categories, all but seven of which were open to non-members.

With a wide range of Award categories open to entrants outside the Union’s membership, of the total entries, 231 were from 16 CBU members, while a total of 9 non-member media houses submitted a combined 27 entries, adding a total. a total of 258, the highest number for the past three years.

Category sponsors included Trinidad and Tobago Unit Trust Corporation, UNICEF Eastern Caribbean Area Office, UNDRR and Sagicor (Barbados) with TATT as the general partner of the Awards.
