Hello Miramar Residents;
People’s Commissioner Maxwell B. Chambers here, hoping you’ve had a fantastic summer. My office worked hard to make sure our physical interaction with you was a priority. Last summer, the pandemic hindered our ability to safely celebrate together, so this year we organized events that atone for past disabilities.
“In this journey adversity will come, but let those troubles and obstacles strengthen you”

AUGUST I
August was a wonderfully busy, interactive yet productive month. As usual, we operate our bi-weekly food drive at Miramar United Methodist Church. Every second Thursday we offer food to our residents in need. Please contact my office for more information (954) 602-3154.
Our annual National Night Out event was well attended across the city. If you weren’t able to join this year’s gatherings, please come out next year to meet our first responders and get updated education about the safety and security measures the City of Miramar promotes within our community. My infamous Popcorn and Snow Cone machines ran out by the end of the night.
We sent our little scholars back to school by supporting an abundance of fun book bag giveaways. I was honored to be invited to an office of downtown Miramar small business owner, GAMER ROLLERS, located in Historic East Miramar, where the company supplied children with filled book bags and gave them the opportunity to taste their product. of mobile video games. All the local children were given hours of games and free food.
A book bag gift like no other…. I supported and sponsored Dreamcatchers Lotus back to school. Families were treated to a back-to-school event like no other. The day included holistic education, healthy meals, mindfulness, yoga and stress management classes and workshops, with the main objective being to prepare our young scholars for a successful return to the classroom.
My ongoing partnership with Hope of Society Foundations held the annual school and community health fair at Emmanuel Apostolic Church. We provided Back to School supplies and community booths for dental care, school physicals, food distribution, food games and much more.
I am committed to advocating for our local residents in their quest to become entrepreneurs and have been honored to be invited to several grand openings across the city. The pictures of the ribbon cutting say it all.
A great moment .. On August 17, I Commissioner Maxwell B Chambers, the city of Miramar, together with the Rootz Foundation organized a monumental event. We celebrated the 135th anniversary of Marcus Garveys birth and honored his legacy and achievements. The City of Miramar had a great turnout at the Miramar Multi-Purpose Complex. The Jamaican diaspora welcomed the event where his announcement was well received based on the influence that Honorable Garvey has had regarding the upliftment of people of color and his vision for equality around the world.
Our diverse Miramar community includes a lot of Caribbean and Latino culture. On August 10, our Miramar Cultural Center has a concert in honor of Ecuador’s National Day. Our center was packed to the brim with our Hispanic residents. A large percentage of our residents are from the islands. Both Jamaica and Trinidad/Tobago celebrated their 60th anniversary this year. Throughout the city we organized many cultural events for Jamaica. On August 31. Trinidad and Tobago celebrated 60 years of independence. I was happy to use our town square to commemorate this day. Many West Indians joined the festive evening, enjoying Trini cuisine, artefacts and a festive steel pan ensemble.
SCIENTIFIC SEPTEMBER
After a successful return to school. We continue to use our MASH AND EMAP PROGRAMS for families in need. I want residents to know that whatever challenge you face, whether it’s financial, for your home or business, I’m here to help you overcome the difficulties and help you find solutions.
We started the month in collaboration with the Gate Restoration Center where I organized a free gas giveaway on September 7th. 120 residents managed to put gas in their tank and relieve a financial disaster. On September 10th, I hosted the Sickle Cell Awareness Walk where a large number of people took the opportunity to exercise while raising funds and awareness for Sickle Cell Awareness Month.
