Miss Arouca, Tya Jané Ramey, beat 23 other contestants to win Miss Universe Trinidad and Tobago 2022 on Sunday, September 11 at the Queen’s Hall in Port of Spain.
The 24-year-old athlete, ballerina, alto saxophonist and social work and social policy graduate is a former Miss World Trinidad and Tobago winner who placed in the Top 40 at Miss World 2019 and was awarded the Miss World Caribbean title.
Amanda Ameerali and Tishanna Mitchell were the first and second runners-up respectively, while Sihle Letren, Maya Underwood and Candiesha Joseph rounded out the Top 6 finalists.
Last night’s national pageant marked the return of the twin island nation to the Miss Universe pageant after five years.
The new Miss Universe Trinidad and Tobago, who also won the Miss Photogenic award, was crowned by former Miss Universe and one of the judges Wendy Fitzwilliam. She will now prepare to represent her country at the 71st Miss Universe pageant in the first quarter of 2023.
