Mokena’s Halloween Hallow Offers Food, Music, Carnival In October

MOKENA, IL – Carnival lovers anxious about Halloween have a chance to enjoy Mokena’s annual fall festival that organizers say has something for everyone ahead of the anticipated holiday season.

The 40th annual Halloween Hallow event will take place Oct. 7-9 at Yunker Park, which is located at 10824 W. La Porte Rd. in Mokena. The annual event features rides from the Windy City carnival, plenty of food options and other fun activities, organizers said.

The festival runs from 5-10pm on Friday 7 October, from noon to 10pm on Saturday 8 October, and from 1pm on Sunday 9 October. Nightly musical entertainment will be provided on the first two. the nights of the event.

Here’s a rundown of the events on offer over the weekend:

Friday, October 7

Carnival runs from 5:30pm to 9:30pm with musical entertainment provided by the Yunker Park Band. The Stingrays will perform from 6-7:30pm before Kovacs and Company takes the stage from 8-10pm.

A wristband with unlimited rides is sold for the 4 1/2 hour window for $35

Saturday, October 8

Unlimited Ride Wristbands will be sold for two sessions: 12-4pm ($30) and 5-9pm ($35)

Bandshell entertainment will be provided from 12-10pm and features The Fortunate Sons (6-7.30pm) and Infinity (8-10pm)

Saturday will also feature the Monster Market, which features vendors selling Halloween decor, plants, home goods and other items. Saturday will also feature the costume contest starting at 2pm in the bandshell. The contest will include four categories (band, funniest costume, scariest costume and most original).

Saturday’s festivities also include a scarecrow lab, children’s activities and pumpkin painting. A wristband for children’s activities is available for $20.

Sunday, October 9

The day will feature only the wristband carnival with unlimited rides sold for the window from 1pm for $30.

Rides will be available for children with special needs from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., organizers said. Completed forms will be required and are available through the Special Recreation Association or at local schools.
