Meteorologist Jonathan Yuhas warns that more severe weather is expected to move across the state Sunday night after Saturday night’s storms hit the metro and beyond, including those that attended the Minnesota State Fair.
The most likely window for severe weather, such as strong and gusty winds, is 9 a.m. to 11 p.m. Sunday.
Yuhas says mild thunderstorms are expected Sunday morning in the Twin Cities, and water accumulation may occur in southeastern suburbs in Dakota County and western Wisconsin.
Residents are currently dealing with extensive damage left behind by Saturday’s storms, and Yuhas says assessments are being done to see if the damage can be attributed to a tornado in some areas.
As of 8:30 a.m. Sunday, Xcel Energy reports that about 8,200 customers in southern Minnesota and western Wisconsin are without power. The company’s outage map showed thousands more without power late Saturday night.
Although heavy rains and flooded roads sent fairgoers running for shelter Saturday night, activities will go on as planned Sunday, the fair told 5 WITNESS NEWS in a statement.
