In view of the recent spate of accidents at Mangrove Junction in St. Philip, the Ministry of Transport, Works and Water Resources will erect a four-way traffic stop at the site tonight, Tuesday, August 30.
“Reduced speed signs” and “stop signs” will be installed on the main Mangrove Road, which is the section of the Four Roads Road to the Airport. Previously, stop signs and speed reduction signs were only placed along two minor roads at Mangrove and Market Road.
It comes after dash cam footage over the weekend showed a driver along the minor road failing to stop but instead using a stop-roll technique that resulted in a major crash. According to police reports, despite the video of the accident, the injuries sustained by those involved were minor.
Deputy Chief Technical Officer (Operations) Philip Tudor said in an effort to improve safety at the site, a decision was made to install a four-way traffic stop. He said a similar four-way traffic stop had been successfully set up at a junction in Ivy, St Michael where a number of car accidents had occurred.
