As part of the celebrations to mark the National Day of Peru, July 28, the National Authority of Libraries and Information System (NALIS) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the National Library of Peru.
The signing took place at the National Library.
NALIS Executive Director Paula Greene described the occasion as important and long-awaited as it signaled the sharing of expertise between staff from the respective organisations.
Areas for cooperation will include, but not be limited to, preservation of documentary heritage, development of collections, digitization, preventive measures and/or risk control and sharing of materials (books, magazines, catalogs and publications) for mutual benefit.
Greene appreciated the timing of the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding, which is in line with NALIS’ 2020 – 2023 Strategic Plan entitled: Embracing Change in the Delivery of Library and Information Services.
She said: “Therefore, the timing could not be better as NALIS continues to seek opportunities towards organizational sustainability, cultural transformation and service delivery, in line with best practice.
Therefore, we look forward to successful cooperation through the implementation of our Memorandum of Understanding.”
Symon de Nobriga, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Office – Liaison and Line Minister for NALIS, who was present at the signing, said: “The signing of this Memorandum of Understanding is a decisive moment for our countries and especially for our Library professionals.
While the history of cooperation between our two countries has always been along the lines of economic cooperation, this venture in library services and the arts represents a clear understanding of the value of the literary arts in bringing together the diverse people and cultures of our country. two states.
Indeed, through this mix of cultures, one can easily understand the truth, that there is much more that unites us than what divides us.”
In his speech, Dr Amery Browne, Minister of Foreign Affairs and CARICOM Affairs and His Excellency David Malága, Ambassador of Peru to Trinidad and Tobago described the occasion as historic.
Attendees at the event included government officials, members of the diplomatic corps, Peruvian master artist Christian Bendayán, who was sent by the embassy to set up his art exhibit titled: The Amazon Counter-Files at the National Library (July 28 to on August 20). library professionals and other specially invited guests.
