Navy Pier’s NOCHE CARIBEÑA Celebrates Puerto Rican Culture

Navy Pier's Caribbean Night celebrates Puerto Rican culture

In partnership with the Puerto Rican Arts Alliance, Navy Pier will host the Noche Caribeña concert from 5-8:30pm on Saturday, August 13th at the Lake Stage located inside Polk Bros Park. This concert celebrating Puerto Rican culture features multiple musical genres including Puerto Rican and Afro-Caribbean folklore, Latin American pop, big band, salsa, ballads, bombas and plena performances – including artists Carpacho y Super Combo and Son Divas.

The all-female band Son Divas from Puerto Rico is one of the first all-female Puerto Rican orchestras to perform worldwide. The orchestra consists of 12 talented women including singers, drummers, pianists, bassists, saxophone, trombone and trumpet players. In addition to being renowned musicians, its members include counselors, lawyers, Spanish and English teachers with unparalleled academic training. Click here for a message from Son Divas.

Opening act Carpacho y Super Combo — a high-energy seven-piece tropical band ensemble — will return to play live at Navy Pier. The local orchestra is led by Roberto “Carpacho” Marin on bass and lead vocals. They are known for playing popular Latin dance songs, Latin jazz and more. The ensemble includes a mix of the best cultural hits with their original work.

Since 2017, the Puerto Rican Arts Alliance (PRAA) has hosted the Noche Caribeña concert at Navy Pier’s Polk Bros Park Lake Stage. Over the past 24 years, the Puerto Rican Arts Alliance has emerged as a leading cultural organization that exemplifies the excellence of the arts through educational music and arts programs, performances and exhibits to more than 30,000 attendees each year. Over half of the program’s participants are urban youth, many of whom have limited opportunities to engage in music and arts education programs. PRAA is positioned to grow the Latin Music Project into a youth music conservatory and build on its innovative art performances and exhibits, enhancing student learning and audience engagement.

Located on Lake Michigan, Navy Pier is the premier non-profit tourism destination in the Midwest, spanning more than six city blocks and typically welcoming nearly 9 million annual visitors. Originally opened in 1916 as a transportation and recreation facility, this Chicago landmark features more than 50 acres of parks, restaurants, attractions, retail, cruise ships and dining, exhibits and more. The Pier celebrated its 100th anniversary in 2016 with the unveiling of the iconic Centennial Wheel, Polk Bros. Park, the Fifth Third Family Pavilion and the Peoples Energy Welcome Pavilion. In 2021, Navy Pier continued to usher in its second century with ongoing redevelopment efforts across the Pier—including the Sable, a 223-room Hilton hotel, new restaurants and partnerships, and exciting additions to Pier Park. The Pier is also proud to continue to offer free arts and cultural programs throughout the year designed to inspire, educate and connect communities across the city and the globe.
