The Caribbean’s only Veterinary University opened its doors in Morne Daniel to its new batch of students today. As the international Covid situation stabilizes, in addition to Dominican students, this semester is seeing students coming from several countries, including Suriname, Trinidad and Tobago, St Lucia, as well as a strong group from the United States.
Dr. Naderkhani, the university’s president, expressed his enthusiasm for the newly enrolled group.

“I continue to think of all students as an extended family, and this family continues to grow rapidly,” he added.
Today marked another occasion – the Graduation Ceremony for the first class of students who received their Associate Veterinary Technology degree.
The ceremony was led by Dr. Rita Nassief – Zreik, vice president and also volunteer and coordinator at St Nicholas Animal Rescue – one of several additions to the University’s dynamic team. Students also heard remarks from Dr. St.Amie – Acting Veterinary Officer, Dr. Charles – Dean of Pre-Vet, and an introduction to the history of Dominica by the Former Cultural Chief
A brief commentary on life on the island combined with safety tips for students was presented by a police officer, financial investigator Gary Benjamin. The Ministry of Blue and Green Economy and Agriculture was represented
The university cites direct and indirect contributions to local communities by supporting local growth in areas such as the accommodation, food and entertainment sectors.
