NEW BRITAIN – The New Britain Youth Leadership Council in partnership with the New Britain Police Department and the YWCA will host its annual Back to School Youth Carnival this Saturday.
“This carnival is similar to the July event, but bigger because we plan to give out book bags, free food and ice cream. We will have Connecticut’s Change the Script Resource van and there will be sales opportunities,” said Tyshaunda Wiley, prevention coordinator, New Britain Community Services.
From 4pm to 7pm at Chesley Park, everyone is welcome to enjoy live music, inflatables, carnival games, basketball and pick up some free school supplies.
“We appreciate donations of any size and accept cash donations if school supplies are not feasible,” said the New Britain Youth Leadership Council. “We aim to cater to New Britain’s middle and high school students with this event, so age-appropriate backpacks and supplies are highly encouraged.”
This fun-filled carnival for students of all ages, schools and backgrounds is the council’s way of giving back to the community by providing resources to young people who don’t have access to them as students prepare to go back to school.
“We plan to make this a much bigger event,” Wiley said. “We are looking for interested partnerships for financial responsibility to help with this event.”
