Haiti

While the situation in Haiti continues to be dire, despite the presence of international police, including from Kenya and Jamaica, the residents of Petite-Rive l’Artibonite are living under constant threat from the Savien gang. The citizens, caught in the vice, are forced to stay at home, prevented from escaping by other armed groups, who accuse them of tolerating the escapes of the Gran Grif gang. Residents of Petite-Rive are deprived of any freedom of movement, especially those who try to leave the city to seek shelter in neighboring areas.

Guyana

Guyana Amazon Warriors were defeated by St. Lucia Kings at their home ground in CPL Finals 2024. Faf du Plessis, captain of St.Lucia Kings, was able to lift the CPL T20 trophy after the final match of Caribbean Republic Bank Men’s Premier League 2024 between Saint Lucia Kings and Guyana Amazon Warriors at Providence Stadium on October 6, 2024.

Nicaragua

Protests continue in Nicaragua for justice following the killing last month of environmentalist Juan Lopez and calls for protection for his family and colleagues. Protesters take their message outside the Public Ministry in Tegucigalpa on October 10, 2024. Juan Lopez, who campaigned against open-pit iron ore mining, was shot dead on September 14 after leaving a church in the northeastern city of Tocoa. The Inter-American Commission on Human Rights had ordered protective measures against Lopez due to threats against him and other environmentalists from Tocoa.

Argentina

In Shanghai, China, Argentina’s Maximo Gonzalez and Andres Molteni celebrate after winning their match against Italy’s Simone Bolelli and Andrea Vavassori in the men’s doubles quarterfinal match on Day 11 of the 2024 Rolex Shanghai Masters at the Qi Zhong Tennis Center.

Colombia
